«Walking», a poster designed by R2 represents Portugal at an exhibition curated by Philippe Apeloig, taking place at Orly and Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airports. The posters (4x3 m) were created by designers from all 27 countries of the European Union.
This exceptional exhibition aims to highlight the strength and originality of European graphic design. The curator, internationally-renowned graphic designer Philippe Apeloig, has himself worked with many prestigious cultural institutions all over the world. He has selected 27 graphic designers, one from each of the EU member states. They have created 27 posters celebrating Europe around the theme of walking.
«Why walking? Europe's uniqueness lies in the fact that its entire territory is accessible on foot - with the exception of three island states. One can walk from one end of Europe to the other, and be sure to find convenient stopovers throughout. The very idea of walking expresses an urge to move toward others, a sense of motion… Walking triggers curiosity and lets you move forward little by little. The act of walking requires effort, stamina, patience and energy. Walking projects us two million years back (homo erectus), to the evolution of the human race. Both simple and complex, it is a metaphor of life and progress, because it generates freedom of movement.»
