Half-open, open, half-closed, closed is an neon type installation for the Guimarães 2012 European Capital of Culture.
This installation was created specifically for the tower of the castle of Guimarães. It reflects about the concepts of “open” and “closed”, and the possibilities of space boundaries in the current context.
The work of R2 is integrated in the exhibition cycle “The Castle in Three Acts: Assault, Deconstruction, Reconstruction”. This project, curated by Paulo Cunha e Silva will also show works by Adriana Molder, Ana Pérez-Quiroga, Fernanda Fragateiro, Filipa César, Footsbarn Travelling Theatre, Gabriel Abrantes, IBon Mainar, João Leonardo, João Louro, João Luís Carrilho da Graça, João Onofre, João Pedro do Vale / Nuno Alexandre Ferreira, José Pedro Croft, Julião Sarmento, Miguel Palma, Miguel Vieira Baptista, Rui Chafes e Yonamine.

R2 is the signature of the designers and artists Lizá Défossez Ramalho (Troyes, France) and Artur Rebelo (Porto, Portugal). R2’s practice extends beyond conventional boundaries, navigating both typical graphic design’s two-dimensional mediums and architectural landscapes. R2 has earned global acclaim for its groundbreaking projects that contributed to redefine the boundaries of the design field. Recent projects includes branding project for Évora 2027, European Culture Capital in 2027 as well as for Vhils Studio.
