Dois Tempos (Two Times) is a typographical installation on Ermida Nossa Senhora da Conceição, a small old church in Lisbon now turned into an art gallery. The client asked R2 to intervene in order to captivate public attention to the gallery. Integrated in the design biennial Exd under the theme “Timeless”, this installation appears as a reflection on time and contemporaneity through headlines taken from newspapers.
It was displayed on the scale of the street, with the façade of the building being filled with letters of varying dimensions and thicknesses that seemed to emerge from the wall, creating an effect similar to that of dry relief on paper.
“Two Times” appeared in different ways throughout the day and night. At night, the façade was transformed into a light box on which the text gradually stood out from the background, increasing the contrast and legibility. The properties of the ink allowed light to be emitted with varying degrees of intensity and also allowed an individual and temporary record to be created.
