R2 was invited by Text Gallery to participate in the exhibition "Imaginary Menagerie". For this exhibit, R2 and other 18 designers were given an open brief to explore language's difficult, tongue-tripping, unpronounceable labyrinths typographically and in their own language.
Having this as starting point, a more sculptoric approach was preferred, by choosing a Portuguese tongue-twister and printing its letters in 3D. Made in resin, these letters create a three-dimensional effect that changes according to the observer’s perspective. These variations intended to materialize the oral discourse. The volume of the letters may be perceptible by the grid, variable throughout the text, as it is more concentrated in the parts in which speech becomes more confused. Letters’ thickness is also inconstant, as it represents the different given tones along the speech.
